CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) - An 80-year-old West Virginia horse racing track has had its biggest gambling month ever.

Officials with the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races say the total handle - or amount wagered from all sources - was nearly $1.37 million per live racing day in April.

That beats last year's record by about 1 percent.

Combined, the handle for 18 live race days so far this year is more than $24.6 million.

Racing operations vice president Erich Zimny says the Charles Town Classic is the single largest contributor to the success.

That April 20 event set a record for the largest handle on a single card with nearly $4.4 million.

It also set a record when nearly $1.3 million was wagered on a single race, won by Game on Dude.
