Young driver hits transit bus in La., injuring 12

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A boy driving a pickup truck ran a stop sign and then cut off a city bus in Shreveport, La., causing a collision that left him and 12 others injured, some seriously.

Shreveport Assistant Fire Chief Scott Wolverton says the crash happened Friday night.

Wolverton said Saturday that the youth was critically injured and hospitalized. He declined to release the boy's age.

A local TV station reported his age as 13.

Wolverton said the bus driver and a passenger near the front of the bus suffered serious head injuries and were also hospitalized. Nine others were transported to hospitals with less severe injuries.

The bus was carrying 24 passengers.
