JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - The death toll could rise in Indonesia, following an earthquake and tsunami.
At least 23 people are dead and 160 others are missing following the 7.7-magnitude tremor that triggered a tsunami off western Indonesia.
The head of the Health Ministry's crisis center says a 10-foot-high wave washed away hundreds of houses in two coastal villages on part of a sparsely populated island chain called Mentawai (mehn-TAH'-wy).
Some Australian surfers say they were on their chartered vessel when the tsunami hit, caused them to smash into another boat. They say fire then ripped through their cabin.
