CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) - A San Diego-area elementary school where a gunman wounded two girls is reopening with counselors available to help those traumatized by last week's playground attack.
Students will arrive late Monday morning and gather for lunch at Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad and then have a short day of classes. Full classes will resume Tuesday.
On Friday, a man opened fire with a revolver on children at the playground, wounding a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl in the arms. They are expected to recover.
Brendan O'Rourke, of Oceanside, was tackled by construction workers and arrested.
School district Superintendent John Roach says one of the construction workers and police will be on campus Monday for students who want to thank them.
