Military school building shut down by fire marshal to be torn down

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A military school building that a fire marshal shut down will soon be demolished.

The U.S. Army Cadet Corps said the Rankin Building, on the campus of the former Millersburg Military Institute in Bourbon County, will be torn down next week.

Corps officials said they had to tear down the building, in order to save the adjoining McIntyre Building, which was also shut down.

Earlier this month, the Paris fire marshal found fire code violations in both buildings, and ordered the Corps to shut them down.

Corps officials say they will preserve the Rankin name by salvaging the clock given to the school by the senior class of 1958, its dedication brick, the building's cornerstone, and as many bricks as possible.

The Rankin Building was built in 1923.

Millersburg Military Institute closed in 2006, but it was purchased by the U.S. Army Cadet Corps in 2009.
