Police say Lexington gun shop scammed out of nearly a dozen guns

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A dozen guns were scammed out of the hands of a Lexington store. Police say Buds Gun Shop became victim to gun buyers who weren't willing to pay.

Police in Lexington are investigating a case out of Bud's Gun Shop. They say in nine different cases the store has lost 11 guns recently in fraudulent online transactions. Buds filed the report with Lexington Police last Friday at the request of the ATF. They told investigators someone has been ordering the guns online. Buds completes the transaction, ships the gun to the dealer, but by the time Buds realizes the payment hasn't gone through, police say the gun is already in the hands of the buyer.

"An individual through the Internet has ordered guns from Buds Gun Shop, received the guns and then canceled the credit card transaction so that that individual actually has the gun, but Buds never gets the money from the credit card company," explains Lexington police spokesperson Sherelle Roberts.

Lexington police say they're still in the initial stages of their investigation. More agencies may become involved.
