ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman who went missing from the scene of a murder is now safe.
Police tell WKYT that 39-year-old Leslie Luttrell contacted Kentucky State Police on Sunday afternoon and asked for help.
She told police that she was able escape from her husband, 39-year- old Gary Luttrell.
Police say he is the main suspect in a shooting that left a man dead in Anderson County.
It was around 10:00 Saturday morning when 54-year-old Steven Brisco was found dead in his driveway.
“Mister Brisco’s death has been determined to be due to a gunshot wound to the chest and specifically a shotgun wound to the chest,” said Anderson County Coroner Mark Tussey.
Now police are searching for the man they believe is responsible for the crime, 39-year-old Gary Luttrell of Lexington.
They believe Luttrell's wife, Leslie, was actually at Brisco’s house on Fairview Road at the time of the shooting.
But after the incident, when police couldn't find the couple, they considered Leslie as a missing person-- that is, until Sunday afternoon.
“A female subject that was at the residence that was a possible victim involved was located on Sunday in the Shepherdsville area,” said Trooper Kendra Wilson with Kentucky State Police. “She did get away on foot she escaped and ran to a neighboring store and contacted state police.”
After Luttrell made the call, officers picked her up in Shepherdsville which is about an hour outside Frankfort. At that point, they brought her back to the KSP Post in Frankfort to interview her.
Thankfully, Leslie Luttrell was found unharmed. Now police are solely focused on finding the man she escaped from before he causes harm to anyone else.
“State police are still concerned for the safety of the public; we are still encouraging the public if they come in contact with Gary, who is a person of interest in this case, to call police. We consider him armed and dangerous at this point,” Trooper Wilson said.
Police say Gary Luttrell was last seen driving a black 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier with a faded hood.
If you have any information on Luttrell’s whereabouts, you’re asked to call Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
