One inmate captured, one still on the run in Whitley County

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - Police say two inmates escaped from the Whitley County Detention Center on Friday, and one of them is still on the run.

Dispatchers say 42-year-old James Fields and 24-year-old Justin Cornett escaped through the kitchen sometime after 6pm Friday night, grabbing a knife on their way out.

Fields was located around 1:30am Saturday morning in the woods in the Mount Morgan Community near Williamsburg.

Officials say a K9 Unit was able to track him into the woods near the backyard of a state trooper. Fields was in jail on Identity Theft and Terroristic Threatening Charges.

As of this morning officials say Cornett is still on the run, he was in jail on Burglary and Resisting Arrest Charges.

Police say Cornett has a violent history and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Dispatchers say Cornett was last seen wearing orange t-shirts, black rubber boots, and parka-type coats and could be in a silver van.
