MORGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police are still looking for a blue, full sized GMC pickup after they say it hit Elizabeth Thornsberry, 41, and Tony Ross, 48, on Kentucky Highway 1010, Saturday night. Neighbors in the area say they're saddened to hear of the deaths, but when it comes to this stretch of road they're not surprised. They say it can be very dangerous.

"You can't hardly even walk on the road, like we used to do years ago, because of people flying. It's just dangerous," said Pat Kelly, who lives just a short distance from the crash scene.

The only signs left on the road are a pair of small orange spray paint marks where police say Thornsberry and Ross were hit and killed just after seven in the evening.

"It's just a sad thing," reacted Kelly.

Police say Ross left a local bar on foot and Thornsberry followed in her car trying to speak to Ross. The two stopped in the west bound lane and police say that's where they were hit by the truck. Police say the driver didn't stop. It's believed the truck has damage to the front grill and bumper.

Several neighbors say the reason why this section of Highway 1010 is so worrisome, is because it's the straightest and flattest part of the highway, a layout that drivers can abuse.

"It's always been a dangerous section of road. People (are) always just trying their vehicles out, just to see how fast they can go up and down through here," described Kelly, and echoed by others in the area.

With that factor in mind add a very dark road, and that can be a problem as Kelly said, "It makes you want to be more cautious when you're out on the roads."

KSP said this hit-and-run is an ongoing investigation and they're asking for anyone with information to call 606-784-4127.
