Lexington homeowner shoots teen intruder

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police say a teenager was shot after he and another person broke into a home.

It happened Friday night along Bryan Station Road.

Police say two men kicked in the back door of the home and the homeowner fired two shots hitting one of the men in the leg.

Police found the 16-year-old in the driveway of the home. Firefighters took him to UK Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The homeowner apparently had been a victim of crime before, so that's why he was kind of always cautious and owned a firearm," Lexington Police Lt. Eddie Hart said.

The homeowner told WKYT's Victor Puente that he was glad the teen was not more seriously injured.

Police say they have not found the second intruder. They think he got away in a car after the home invasion.
