Winter Storm Warning Sunday and Monday

A major winter storm will blow into the bluegrass state on Sunday and deliver nasty weather. Significant snow and ice accumulations are likely for many areas through Monday.

That's why a Winter Storm Warning is now out for much of the state Sunday and Monday. Here's a breakdown on how this looks to play out.

- Light rain develops early Sunday morning and then slowly changes to sleet and freezing rain from northwest to southeast during the day.

- Most areas will be seeing a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow by Sunday evening.

- Sunday night into Monday morning will feature widespread snow, sleet and freezing rain.

- Gusty winds of 30mph will be possible during this time as temps drop into the low teens by Monday morning.

The gusty winds and ice and snow may combine to lead to power outages in some areas. Travel conditions will go downhill quickly by late Sunday and we could see some roads closed before this event winds down on Monday.

Ice accumulations of .25"-75", sleet accumulations of 1" and snowfall of 2"-8" will be possible.

Sunday and Monday will be First Alert Severe Weather Alert Days on WKYT and wkyt.com. Keep checking back for additional updates.
