PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) Wednesday evening, some homeowners in Perry County came home to a frightening scene.

Fire officials say a wildfire burned nine acres of grassland near Chavies, but did not damage any homes or buildings.

The fire began around 6:30pm, and the Grapevine/Chavies Fire Department extinguished it a couple hours later.

Kentucky Division of Forestry is investigating the incident as arson.

Elizabeth Ann Browning capture the blaze on video while riding back to her home near Chavies.

The recording shows what investigators believe was an intentionally set fire.

"We are investigating it," said Division of Forestry official Kristy Whitaker, "We do have an arson investigation kit that we send out there to check the origin, to see if there are any clues to find out who did it or how it was set."

At this time, investigators say they do not have any suspects.

One homeowner that witnessed the flames says he did not notice any suspicious people around the area, either.

"We are vigilant out here," said Dana Feltner, "And we try to look out for each other on each street."

Just one more incident in an already busy time of year.

"This fire season we've had more fires," said Whitaker, "Our humidity has remained real low throughout the season."

Officials say once nature takes its course, the number of fires should decrease.

One way to protect your home from forest fires is to clear out debris around buildings, and keep your lawn green.
