Deputies: Children found in filthy home, parents arrested

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A call of a fight late Tuesday night brought police to a house on Ky 3439 near Barbourville but it's what deputies found inside that landed 25 year-old Nicholas Jones and his 24 year-old wife, Kristina, in jail. Police say garbage was everywhere and the couples' three small children were living in it.

Adam Gray says he knows the couple well and is quick to come to their defense. "I know the house is a bit cluttered up, but their kids are well, well, well, took care of," said Gray.

Yet police say in court records that it was the worst case of neglect they've seen. Three children laying in garbage in their beds, garbage piled up in corners of the room, and rotten food on the floor. Gray and others say the kids were taken care of. "They did... they fed their kids, they were not malnourished," another neighbor said.

As far as the dirty conditions of the house are concerned, Gray claims that's a matter of opinion. "I mean they're clean but it's cluttered," said Gray.

The couple is being held in the Knox County Jail on $2,500 bond after pleading not guilty to the charges Thursday morning in District Court.
