Man killed after hours-long standoff with State Police in Harlan County

HARLAN, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police shot and killed a man on Friday after an hours long standoff in Harlan County.

State Police responded to the Dollar General Store in the Coldiron community of Harlan County for an armed robbery.

Police were told that Neil Saylor had entered the store, brandished a gun and demanded money from the clerk.

When they arrived on scene, Saylor had already left but they found him a few hours later in someone else's driveway armed with a hand gun.

Police were in a stand-off with Saylor for several hours and the Kentucky State Special Response Team was called to the scene.

During the course of the standoff Saylor became aggressive towards Troopers and was shot and killed.

Saylor was taken to the state medical examiners office in Frankfort where an autopsy will be performed.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
