WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Whitley County coroner says 26-year-old Robert Young drowned about 8 p.m. Sunday at the Laurel Lake Spillway.

We've learned he was the father of two young girls.

Rescue crews believe Young was swimming with a friend when he tried to swim out to a buoy.

He was last seen about 200 feet from shore, where the water is more than 60 feet deep.

When he didn't make it back to the beach, divers searched the water for five hours.

They finally found his body around 1 a.m. Monday.

"It's bad enough to lose a child any day. On Mother's Day, it's really sad," said Danny Moses, Whitley County EMA Director.

Young lived in Laurel County. His neighbor, Darrell Benge, was sorry to hear the news of his death. He tells WKYT he feels much worse for Young's family.

"I know what it feels like losing somebody," said Benge."It's a tragedy any time you lose somebody."

The coroner is investigating the drowning.

A visitation for Young will be held Friday morning at Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg at 11 a.m. His funeral will be held at 1 p.m.
