LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A father faces charges after police say he left his 13-month-old son alone in a car so he could buy cigarettes at a store.

Louisville Police arrested 46-year-old Michael Oppedahl outside a Walgreen's Sunday night.

Police say the child was alone for about 20 minutes, until a woman noticed him and reached into an open window to unlock the car.

She was holding the child when Oppedahl returned, according to police.

Police say Oppedahl nearly drove off without the child.

He's been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.
