Lexington teenager receives life-saving kidney transplant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - We have an update on a Lexington teenager who's been waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant.

We've been following 16-year-old Braxton Upthegrove's story for more than a year.

He's a student at Henry Clay High School.

On Wednesday, his family learned that doctors found a kidney that's a perfect match for Braxton.

Family members say his kidney transplant surgery began around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Family tells us the surgery finished around midnight and that everything went well.

They says Braxton is doing great and is expected to be in recovery for most of the day Thursday.
