LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A former Lexington middle school teacher has learned he will spend the next year behind bars.

Former Leestown Middle School teacher, Jason Thompson, admitted to sexually abusing four boys in his home. Earlier this year, he plead guilty to six counts of second degree sexual abuse. Friday morning, Thompson's attorney did not ask for probation.

"We do respect and understand the violation of trust that is associated with this case," Thompson's attorney told the judge. "Because of that, we are going to ask the court to impose the sentence that we negotiated."

Thompson received the recommended sentence of one year per each of the six counts. But by law, the terms of Thompson's sentence must run concurrently, meaning he will be out of jail in one year.

Thompson didn't have anything to say to our cameras as he left the courtroom, but inside, he did apologize for his crimes.

"I first want to just apologize to the individuals, the kids, that were involved," Jason Thompson told the courtroom. "Also my family, who have been such a great support through this whole entire time."

Thompson must report to the Fayette County detention center next Wednesday to begin serving his sentence.

Thompson was also ordered not to have contact with his victims and he has to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years.
