Police: Cigarette request leads to Lexington shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are searching for a suspect after a shooting early Friday morning.

It happened near the Terrace View Apartments shortly after midnight Friday.

Police say a man with dreadlocks, wearing a white sleeveless t-shirt and khaki shorts, approached the victim and asked him for a cigarette.

According to the victim, when he said he didn't have one, the suspect shot him.

The gunman ran off and the victim was taken to UK hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

The victim says he didn't recognize the suspect.

Police have not made an arrest related to the crime.

Around the time of the shooting, police also received a call from a parent of a child who said they were threatened by someone with a gun also in this area.

Police can't say for sure if that incident is related to the other shooting.
