Man found badly beaten in Rockcastle County

Derek Kissee, 23, lives in a neighborhood west of Somerset with his grandmother who we are told raised him. But Wednesday night he was in a remote section of Rockcastle County..the victim of an apparent beating.

Shotgun shells and other things that are signs of a makeshift shooting range litter the grounds just off Mullins Station Road, a windy curvy stretch of rural roadway that snakes in and around CSX railroad tracks.

It was here where two men looking for brass bullet casings found something else entirely...a man badly beaten. Police say that assault victim is Derek Kissee, 23, who is from Somerset yet for some reason was in the rural Rockcastle County area Wednesday night.

Few people live near the old rock quarry that looks more like twin caves flanked by a railroad tunnel....and the many questions as to what happened to the Pulaski County man have few answers.

The incident remains under investigation by the Rockcastle County Sheriff's office. We were told that Kissee was airlifted to UK but we have not been able to find out more on his condition.

Relatives contacted by WKYT said they did not want to comment on what happened to Kissee.
