Benefit helps raise money in search for missing teen

MT. VERNON, Ky. (WKYT) - Two months have gone by and there is still no word on the whereabouts of missing Madison County teenager Brookelyn Farthing. She was last seen June 22, at a home in Berea that was later damaged in a fire.

Saturday dozens of people took part in a benefit bass tournament organized in Mt. Vernon.

"It was awesome. They started coming in here one right after the other. I was looking up the road there and they were still coming. I was beginning to wonder where I was going to park them at," says Lester Ratliff, the dock master at Lake Linville.

The money raised in that event, and others that have been held in the past weeks, will help pay for a billboard the Farthing family is putting up next month.

"I hope this helps them out towards that or like I said, they could put it to the reward fund. I don't really care about that. None of us do. Whatever helps them out. Trying to get information on Brookelyn and find her whereabouts," says John Crane, the tournament organizer.

Some of the people who signed up to take part in Saturday's tournament said they didn't want to compete, and signed up just to help the family.

Farthing's sister says the family will put a billboard on Big Hill Avenue in Richmond. She says it should be up within a month.

"We're just trying to keep her name out there," says Tasha Thomas, Farthing's sister.

The disappearance of 19 year-old Brookelyn Farthing is getting national attention. Friday night the case was featured in a segment on the Jane Velez-Mitchell Show on Headline News. Farthing's sister says the family is trying to get as much national news coverage as possible in hopes of finding the missing teen.

"We worked hard, really hard to get on national news. I've emailed every single day to everybody," adds Thomas.

The benefit bass tournament raised $970.
