University of Kentucky bomb-sniffing dog retiring after cancer diagnosis

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- A long-time member of the University of Kentucky Police Department will be retiring Friday, but this officer is a lot different than others.

Becka, a bomb-sniffing dog, will retire after nine years on the force.

Becka was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer, so UK Police decided she should retire.

Lieutenant Rob Turner has been her partner.

He says Becka has done countless Rupp Arena sweeps, and even a few Super Bowls.

He's going to adopt Becka as his pet.

"It's a little bittersweet knowing it's her last time and she's going out the way she is with her sickness, but she'll be able to come home and she'll be taken care of," said Turner.

Turner says Becka has some respiratory issues, but otherwise she's doing okay right now.
