LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Eastern Kentucky University Colonels will make their first NCAA tournament appearance in seven years.
The team won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, earning an automatic bid to the tournament.
Employees at EKU’s bookstore are now preparing for an onslaught of t-shirt orders after the university’s OVC victory.
"We knew that Belmont would be a tough game,” said Lisa Crowe, who works for the bookstore. “I think we weren't surprised, but excited that we won this one."
"I think it’d be fun for EKU and KU to play each other," said another employee.
Campus is pretty much a ghost town with this week being Spring Break.
Still, that's not stopping the excitement of the Colonels advancing on to the NCAA tournament.
They're hoping to start getting some shirts in the store on Wednesday with the expectation that some students will come back to school early to celebrate.
"When we went to the Big Dance in 2007, there was so much excitement that students returned early to have these selection parties on campus," said Crowe.
In the seven years EKU has competed in the tournament the team hasn't won a game.
They're hoping 2014 will be their year to change that.
You can pre-order a t-shirt online at www.shopeku.com
They’re offering free shipping through April 14th because of the victory.
Classes at EKU will be back in session on Monday, March 17th.
