Car owners puzzled by errant tax notices

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - Some car owners in western Kentucky have received notices about past-due taxes even though the tabs have been paid.

Daviess County Clerk David "Oz" Osbourne told the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer the notices were originating with the Kentucky Department of Revenue in Frankfort, but that no one in either office knows why people are being told their taxes are overdue.

So far, Osborne says, the notices have primarily gone to people who paid their taxes in late June to mid-July.

The glitch comes two weeks after people who paid boat taxes received similar notices about payments being overdue.

Osbourne says he doesn't know how many past-due notices were erroneously sent out.
