Climber airlifted to hospital after fall in Wolfe County

A climber had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter Sunday afternoon after an accident in Wolfe County.

WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A climber had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter Sunday afternoon after an accident in Wolfe County.

Officials tell us it happened around 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Muir Valley area.

We're told a 21 year old man was climbing a route about 70 feet high when he made a mistake, slipped and fell.

A volunteer rescue was immediately notified and he was taken by ambulance to Pine Hill where he was flown to Huntington, West Virginia for treatment due to storms over Lexington.

The extent of the climbers injuries are not known at this time, but officials said they are hopeful he will recover.
