Counselors at Russell County schools after teen's death

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Grief counselors are at a southern Kentucky middle school after the death of teenager.

13-year old Matthew Merideth was killed on Wednesday when the car he was riding in hit a tree. Merideth was an 8th grader at Russell County Middle School. The teen was on the middle school football team.

A crisis management team was called to the school of 700 students on Thursday. The superintendent and other school officials have also been busy helping students deal with the loss.

The driver of the car, Merideth's step-brother, was a student at the high school. Counselors are also at that school, helping students there.

We are told that the Pruitt Funeral Home in Jamestown is handling arrangements for Matthew Merideth.
