MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials have released the name of a woman who died from the injuries she sustained during an early morning accident in Madison County.

State police say a truck driven by Evelyn Applegate and jeep driven by Russell Willey were involved in a head-on collision on Battlefield Memorial Parkway, early Tuesday morning.

The Madison County Coroner tells WKYT that 53-year-old Evelyn Applegate of Berea died from the injuries she sustained during the accident.

The coroner says she was on her way to work, heading north toward Richmond, when she was involved in the crash.

State Police say they believe the fog may have played a role in the accident. Investigators say Willey's jeep crossed the center line and struck Applegates truck.

Latasha Burton lives nearby where the accident occurred says she heard the crash and rushed out to check on the victims. She tells WKYT that she stayed by the side of a woman trapped inside the pickup until paramedics arrived.
