FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Education Commissioner Terry Holliday will provide a progress report Friday on the beleaguered Breathitt County schools, which have been under state control since last December.
Holliday scheduled a noon EDT news conference at Breathitt County High School.
Management of the school district was taken over by the Department of Education after an audit found "significant" problems and that local administrators lacked the ability to make the necessary changes.
A retired school superintendent, Larry Hammond, was appointed to oversee the Breathitt County schools during the takeover. Hammond led the Rockcastle County schools for 17 years.
