Officer involved shooting in Clark County

CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT is learning more about an police involved shooting at a Clark County home that left a man seriously injured.

Kentucky State Police were called out to Cole Road Tuesday morning before 11 o'clock.

Police say they went to the home as a part of a drug investigation, but the victim's father tells us his son has nothing to do with drugs and he was trying to confront an intruder.

KSP were called to Cole Road on a suspicion of marijuana growing plant operation which lead to an officer involved shooting. The father of the shooting victim says his son was ambushed.

Doug Naselroad is the father. He says, "They said that they had been called on a drug complaint but honestly it stinks to high heaven."

Naselroad says his son, Joel, was convinced that a masked intruder was on their Clark County property over several days. He even says it's caught on camera.

Naselroad says, "He had a small, 25 caliber automatic in his hand. He thought he was defending our property. Apparently there is no defending your property."

A Clark County Sheriff's Deputy and KSP were out at the scene.

Trooper Robert Purdy says, "We tried to make contact with the alleged suspect. During that time he actually drew a firearm."

33-year-old Joel Naselroad was flown to UK Hospital with one gunshot wound to the chest. His father expects him to recover, but worries about the outcome of this investigation.

Naselroad says, "I feel extremely violated. I think their story is bogus. They swear the man on the SD card is none of them. The evidence is in their hands.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Of course, the investigation continues.

KSP tell us that Joel Naselroad has been charged with two counts of wanton endangerment.

Kentucky State Police Detective Dennis Mabry fired his service weapon striking the suspect.

Detective Mabry is an 11-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
