MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Madison County fire fighters spent more than four hours Saturday morning searching through the remains of a destroyed home and the surrounding area for any sign of the man who lived in the home. He hasn't been seen since the home burned early Thursday morning. They eventually left, saying they didn't find anything, but state police say this investigation is continuing.
Around 1am Thursday firefighters came to the home on Whitlock Road in rural Madison County. Neighbors say the home had flames coming from every window.
"That house was on fire from one end to the other one," said neighbor Clay Masters. "I told my wife 'Walt's in that house.'"
The man who lives in the home, Walt Liebengood, hasn't been seen since the fire, but search crews haven't been able to find any clue as to where he might be.
They began the search Friday, bringing out arson investigators with canines to search the home. That search spread on Saturday, when firefighters searched not only the home, but also several acres surrounding it. The left after nothing new was discovered.
Clay Masters says he hopes they find something that will tell them where Liebengood is.
"He was a good fellow, yes sir, he'd pull his coat off to give it to ya," Masters said.
