Franklin County sheriff's deputy involved in crash

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators say a sheriff deputy's bulletproof vest may have saved his life during a crash.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton tells us one of his deputies crashed on Evergreen Road Monday night while on the way to a call.

Investigators say the deputy lost control of his cruiser in a curve, ran off the road, and went through a plank fence. The sheriff says one of the planks went through the windshield and hit the deputy in the chest, but his bulletproof vest protected him.

He was taken to the hospital, but the sheriff says he was not seriously injured.
