LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) A report of a gas leak summoned Lexington firefighters to an apartment on Village Drive where police had investigated an incident hours earlier on Monday.

Police had taken a report, then late Monday, just before midnight, the fire department arrived to investigate a gas leak. Firefighters said they could immediately tell the leak was intentional.

They said the door to the apartment had been forced open, the stove was left on, and water was left running. There was also graffiti on the walls.

Fire officials believe the gas line had been intentionally cut, and whoever did it may have been trying to start a fire. An arson investigator was on scene last night. Officials say an active investigation is underway.
