Georgetown Police: woman shoots self, claims robbery

GEORGETOWN, Ky. Georgetown Police say a woman who claimed to have been shot during a robbery, actually shot herself.

The shooting took place on North Hamilton Street around 11 Wednesday night.

The incident was reported as a shots fired call, with a possible robbery.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had been shot in the abdomen. She told police that the shooting happened during a robbery. She gave police a description of the suspect.

Once at the hospital, the woman admitted to investigators that she accidentally shot herself while cleaning a gun. She has non-life threatening injuries.

The 20-year old woman has been cited with falsely reporting an incident.
