Georgetown robbery suspect leads police on high speed chase through two counties

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is in jail after police say he robbed a Georgetown gas station and then took them on a high speed chase through two counties.

It happened around 9pm Thursday night at the Shell on Main street. Police say a man walked into the Shell gas station there and acted like he had a weapon on him. He then made off with $200.

The clerk called police who later spotted the suspects vehicle. Police say George Byers refused to stop and led them on a high speed chase into Versailles.

Officials say they were forced to deploy spike strips before they could stop the vehicle to make the arrest.

Byers was arrested and charged with Robbery, Wanton Endangerment and Fleeing and Evading Police.

Byers is currently lodged at the Scott County Detention Center.
