Homeowners weren't there when fire destroyed Lexington house

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Officials say a home was destroyed early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out.

The house is located on Riviera Road, near the Clark County line.

Firefighters worked through the overnight and early morning hours to douse the flames and put out hot-spot.

The homeowners weren't in the house when the fire started, and the flames were able to take hold and cause a lot of damage by the time neighbors saw what was happening.

Firefighters arrived a little after 2:30 in the morning. A fire official told WKYT that they could see the fire and smoke from Winchester Road on their way out, about a quarter of a mile away.

The home is a total loss. Neighbors say the situation is upsetting. "We've never had a house burn out here in this neighborhood," one said. "And they're such good folks. I just hate to see them come home to nothing. It's a very scary feeling."

At last check, fire officials were still trying to get in contact with the homeowners.
