Horse retirement farm to benefit from auction

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky farm for retired thoroughbreds will share in the money raised from an online Hollywood memorabilia auction.

Online bidding is under way and ends Saturday.

Sharing proceeds will be Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm near Georgetown and the Friends of the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington.

The auction includes more than 800 items, including a shirt worn by Jack Nicholson in the film "Chinatown." The shirt was donated by Michael Blowen, founder of the Thoroughbred Retirement Center at Georgetown and a former Boston Globe film critic. The shirt has an estimated value of $600 to $800, with a minimum bid of $200.

The Old Friends farm provides a home for thoroughbreds retired from racing and breeding. The goal is to give the horses a dignified retirement.
