Hotel tax bill passes committee

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- A bill to help pay for renovations to Rupp Arena is headed to the full house for a vote.

The Herald-Leader reports the house local government committee passed the bill Wednesday.

It would let the city of Lexington increase the hotel tax from six percent to eight and a half percent.

The change would raise three and a half million dollars a year.

The renovations are expected to cost more than three hundred million dollars.
