LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman who identified herself to police as the spokeswoman for the Kentucky Republican Party was arrested on Sunday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to officials.
Kelsey Cooper, 23, reportedly drove up to two patrol vehicles on Mustang Crossing, near 3rd St., after midnight on Sunday. Police say she left her car and walked up to the officers, saying that she was lost. We're told the officers could smell alcohol on her, and she failed to pass a field sobriety test when they performed it.
Police say she told them that she's the spokeswoman for the Kentucky Republican Party. Press releases and televised appearances made prior to her arrest identify her as the state party's Communications Director.
Cooper was taken to the Fayette County Jail, and is charged with driving while intoxicated, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
