KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Vinland Energy is offering a reward for information about the thief who stole from the Knox County office.

Knox County Sheriff's Deputies say a man broke into the building in Gray on US-25E. Investigators say he stole thousands of dollars.

Vinland Energy employees discovered the burglary when they got to work on Wednesday morning. They say they found the door broken and files on the floor in every office.

"He ransacked all the offices. He had taken a shovel and for all the file cabinets that were locked, he had taken a shovel to enter them," said Barbara Causey, Office Manager.

Employees say the thief stole thousands of dollars and say he also stole their sense of security.

"It was just like coming into your home and ransacking it. You feel violated that somebody came in and went through your personal things," Causey said.

Knox County Sheriff's Deputies say the man disabled the surveillance equipment to cover his tracks.

"Seemed to be they were very familiar with computer equipment. Knew exactly which wires to disable," said Deputy Claude Hudson.

Deputies say the cameras still had one picture of the thief. They say the cameras caught him coming into the building around 9:30 Tuesday night.

The employees do not know who he is.

Vinland Energy is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

"We hope by putting this out in the public, the public will help us find who did this," said Causey.

"We need the public's help. We were able to retrieve DNA from the crime scene but we need somebody to compare it to," said Deputy Hudson.

Sheriff's deputies say they hope to catch him soon before has a chance to strike again.
