Western Ky. racetrack could reopen by spring

CALVERT CITY, Ky. (AP) - The new owners of a western Kentucky race track hope to have the course open by spring.

Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway co-owner Jim Hale says the company has been working for the past few months to bring the track in Calvert City into race-ready shape.

General Manager Tommy House told The Paducah Sun since the property has been sitting more or less dormant about three years, it required some upgrades. Preparing the track for racing has been House's top priority, but damp weather has made sifting the larger rocks from the dirt track difficult.

Hale estimated other repairs cost more than $100,000, including painting, track cleanup, repairs to the heating and air systems, and other general maintenance.
