LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say they were called to White Oak Road for a domestic dispute. But while admitting she did shoot Lonnie Bowling in the leg…she claims she’s not guilty of any crime.
“Is it fair that I should be here? For someone trying to defend her life? In her home?” Johnson said from the Laurel County Detention Center.
Police say Bowling was shot in the leg and Johnson was charged with assault. She told authorities…and us that he wanted to be shot.
“He did. Indeed that part is true. He did ask me to shoot him. Go ahead and shoot. Next thing I remember, is pow! That’s all I remember,” she said.
“He was an actual boyfriend of the lady. Allegedly got in an argument over a pair of pants,” said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson says the man was trying to hurt her and she says she has the bruises to prove it.
“God knows. And all who know me know I’m innocent. I only acted in my home for my protection and self defense,” Johnson said.
“Unless she had a fear for her life and we don’t think that’s the case…that’s the only time she would be justified in using deadly force,” said Acciardo.
Police also say Johnson was extremely intoxicated on drugs and tried to interfere with EMT’s working on Bowling. From jail she told us she needed a lot of help and even pleaded for someone to help her get out.
But then she raised her hands to the air, almost in praise for her predicament.
“Thank you people, all my people. All God’s children. Thank you for letting this happen, Jesus,” she said.
In addition to assault, Johnson is also charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
