Lee County man shot to death, wife charged with murder

Family members said Rex and Madeline Lykins were married for about 15 years. Now Rex Lykins is dead and his wife, Madeline, is charged with his murder.

Those who knew Rex Lykins say it's surprising anyone would want to hurt him.

"If the man had any enemies, I don't know who it could have been because he was one of the humblest, one of the best men you'll ever meet," said Lykins' brother-in-law, Johnny Mann.

Even more surprising is the person police say shot and killed him - his wife, Madeline Lykins.

"They got to look at everybody. She was in the back washing and he was in the house," said Mann.

Kentucky State Police arrested Lykins shortly after noon today. Police took her to the Three Forks Regional Jail shortly after. They say she shot Rex Lykins multiple times at their home on Primrose Lane around 11:00 Friday night. Mann is Madeline Lykins' brother. He's not sure she pulled the trigger, but he says whoever did, family or not, needs to face justice.

"Never heard him have an ill word with my sister. It was 'Yes, Madeline...yes, honey,' No, never had an ill word with her," he said.

"We put it in God's hands. Whoever done it, I hope God lets it shine to catch the guy, the person who done it. He or she. That's all I got to say about this," said Mann.

WKYT put a request in to speak with Lykins at the jail to get her side of the story, but she declined. She is charged with murder (domestic violence) and tampering with physical evidence.
