Lexington Police upping patrols after purse thefts reported at park

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A crime alert for anyone who visits the park this time of year. Lexington Police say thieves recently took advantage of parents while they watched their children play ball at Shillito Park.

Lexington Police tell us over the past two weeks, five cars have been broken into. One car window was smashed. Four of the cars were left unlocked.

"It's just common sense to keep your door locked. I admit I made that mistake when I first came to town," one park goer tells us.

Lexington Police officers tell us what is concerning is that the thefts are happening in the daytime, when lots of people are around.

Lexington police say they will now have on-duty bike patrols at the park and off-duty officers with park patrol at night.
