LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The Bluegrass Community Health Center in Lexington is collecting backpacks filled with toiletries, hats and gloves to hand out to homeless people.
Workers at the center, which provides primary care to the homeless, are collecting the backpacks through Dec. 14.
Advocates say the gift during the holidays gives dignity and relief to homeless people.
The backpacks will go to people served by the Catholic Action Center in Lexington and to Kentucky River Foothills Emergency Solutions, a program in Richmond that works to prevent homelessness.
Backpacks can be dropped at the Bluegrass Community Health Center in Lexington or at Rowlette Learning Center on Eastern Kentucky University's campus in Richmond.
