Man beaten unconscious and robbed outside Lexington gas station

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police say a man who was leaving a gas station early Saturday morning was beaten unconscious by a robber.

Investigators say the 25-year-old man was knocked out with a single punch about 2 a.m. at the Speedway on South Limestone Street.

Police say two men and a woman stole the victim's wallet before taking off.

We're told the man was still unconscious when police showed up.

"It's kind of scary knowing someone would beat a young man like that and take his money in this area," said Eric Edwards.

He says he stops at the Speedway every day because his wife is a patient at UK Hospital, which is across the street.

"I push her around here in the wheelchair every day, so that's scary," he said.

Joyce Harris also has family at UK Hospital. She says the violent crime worries her because it happened close to the hospital.

"They need to be caught. There are people here at the hospital who need to get stuff, so they need to catch him,” she said.

Investigators say they have very limited suspect descriptions but they do have a description of their car. Police tell us they drove off in a white Chevy Malibu.

We're told the victim was taken to UK Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
