Lexington police dog gets protective vest

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- A member of the Lexington Police Department received a special gift Tuesday evening.

Garik a department K-9 received a protective vest.

The Bluegrass Corvette Club raised $850 to buy the vest for Garik.

The vests are both bullet and stab-proof.

"I didn't even think about the dogs having vests, but just to be able to participate in such a small way, we really appreciate the opportunity," said Tom Workman, from the Bluegrass Corvette Club.

These special vests are both bullet and stab proof and the officers say they are very much needed for the K-9s who can be put into potentially dangerous situations.
