Local girl gives back on Easter weekend

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Some sick kids at Kentucky Children's Hospital will get Easter treats thanks to one local woman who's fighting cancer.

The 19-year-old is in the fight of her life but isn't letting her illness stop her from doing good for others.

A group of church volunteers are helping her expedite her plan.

Easter baskets are filled with sweet treats.

But, they're also a bittersweet reminder of the fragility of life.

"This started when she was 16, three years later and she's in ICU," said Daryl Tony, Associate Pastor at Victory Life Church in Georgetown.

Church member Jordyn Conner has been fighting bone cancer since she was 16 years old.

It started as, what she thought, was a kidney infection.

She’s now at UK Hospital’s ICU.

As debilitating as her illness is, it hasn't stopped her from forming “Jordyn's Jem’s,” an outreach for the kids at Kentucky Children's Hospital.

Her wish is to give 100 Easter baskets out to the kids there on Saturday.

Church members have stepped up to help one of their own.

"They all just wanted to help make her dream come true," said Tony.

He also says the church is willing to look into giving out baskets for kids staying at other hospitals.
