Lockdown at Danville High School lifted

Danville High school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after police received a call that someone thought they spotted a student with a gun on campus.

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Danville High school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after police received a call that someone thought they spotted a student with a handgun on campus Monday.

The caller was able to give police a detailed description of the student they saw. The school was put on lockdown around 8am as school was getting ready to begin Tuesday, while they searched for the weapon.

The superintendent tells us the school was placed on lockdown while officials searched for the student and weapon in question. Officials located a B.B. gun and a knife in the 17-year-old student's locker.

He says the school remained on lockdown while officials questioned the student and determined that there was no other danger.

The school sent out an all-call to parents as soon as the incident occurred and Coleman says that the school utilized Facebook and Twitter get the information about the lockdown out to the public.

The student was removed from school property and the lockdown was lifted as of 10am.

Danville Police say the student has been suspended, and will face charges for bringing weapons on school property.
