LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A convicted killer testified that his then 15-year-old son, who is on trial in the killing of his step-brother, had no part in it. Joshua Gouker's testimony was at times obscene, and he even smirked and laughed.
On Monday, testimony continued in a Louisville courtroom during a teen's murder trial. The teen's father, Joshua Gouker, reiterated on the stand that he's responsible for the murder and his son isn't.
Yet, Josh Young, 17, is still being tried as an adult in this murder case, accused of killing his step-brother, Trey Zwicker, more than two years ago. Young was 15 at the time of the murder with Zwicker being only 14 years old when he was killed. Police say they discovered the teen's body face down in a ditch behind Liberty High School in May 2011.
However, Monday in court, all eyes were on Gouker when he once again changed his story. Originally he had said that kids were to blame for the murder and that Young beat Zwicker with a baseball bat. More recently Gouker took sole responsibility for the murder of his step-son. On Monday, he told the jury that he killed the teen to get back at Zwicker's mother, who he says had an abortion.
"I mean it's not like I wanted Trey to die; or if I could do it over, I'd kill him again. none of that," said Joshua Gouker, a convicted killed sentenced to life in prison. "I mean his mother killed a couple of mine, and it just felt right. I know it sounds monstrous and all that, but if we was in the Old Testament, it'd be the same thing."
Gouker once told police that Young murdered Zwicker, so he could get out of jail and kill Zwicker's mother.
Gouker has already been sentenced to life in prison.
There are about a dozen witnesses who will testify that Louisville courtroom before the day ends.
