BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Barbourville Police say he stole nearly $200,000 from a Knox County business.

Michael Jones of Pineville is accused of stealing the money from Bingham Tire in Barbourville.

He has a list of charges including theft more than ten thousand dollars.

Bingham Tire owners say the books just did not add up earlier this year. They turned it over to Barbourville Police.
Investigators say hundreds of thousands of dollars were missing from the past year.

"We were just dumbfounded," said Brent Bingham of Bingham Tire.

Police say a now former employee Michael Jones stole merchandise and money.

"Mr. Jones had been delivering merchandise to locations of businesses that had not purchased the items," said Det. Steve Owens.

Police say Jones then billed the items to other clients.

"As a company, we're devastated and our main concern is our customers," said Bingham.

Police say so far the theft adds up to $125,000. "It's likely that amount will continue to grow," said Det. Owens. He expects the amount to add up to nearly $200,000.

The business owners are now identifying which customers are victims.

"That's really what we're concerned about is getting them taken care of because some are really old, 40 year customers," said Bingham.

They are contacting the customers affected.

Employees are now making changes to prevent something like this from happening again.

"Our customers are our first priority, without them we don't have a business so we definitely have been taking care of them," said Bingham.

Jones is charged with seven counts of Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $10,000, forty-two counts of Theft By Unlawful Taking U/$10,000-Over $500, eighteen counts of Theft By Unlawful taking Under $500, sixty-seven counts of Falsifying Business Records, one count of Receiving a Commercial Bribe, and one count of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property
